i just reached home from an outing with my darling cousins.
Arina called me just now whilst i was in the midst of sending off my sis and she insisted that i meet saihah and her at heeren. i was like okok i'll go. but i arrived late(obviously! she called me at 1+ asking me to meet her at 2.30) well i arrived almost 3 cuz i had to get my hair ready plus it was raining so i took a bus since i was lazy to walk. i LOVE my hair. haha. have to thank kason for that.
anyway, we ended up going to NYDC to eat. oh and i'm very proud to say that i now know what it means! NYDC stands for New York Dessert Cafe! WOOTZ! haha. so we sat there like forever eating dessret which cost a bomb! oh n btw, i'm officially broke! i hv so little money left n i have to spend at the fashion show tmr! yikes!
i have a very interesting question, who labels who an elitist? how do we decide on who is the elitist? as arina was commenting that as an elitist i shouldn't be too ignorant of certain issues. i have never really considered myself an elitist. but the main thing is, how do you know an elitist? obviously if your in a top school and you say that your not an elite then you deserve a big slap. but for the others, i guess its just the way you think and act. you have to portray a sense of class and must know your moral obligations to society.
oh n we also discussed about our malay community and we agreed that there was something wrong with the system. after all whenever we seem to be taking a step forward(which takes forever since we are slow) we seem to take two steps back. its so sad really.

i was in such a bad mood yesterday so i ended up going for a haircut just now even though i planned to cut my hair only nxt week. ya, i'm the kind of person who needs to destress oft n almost all my methods involve money. haha
went to cut in the morning at Storm CS. i went at 11. ok actually, i came earlier n i saw that almost all the hairstylist spend so much time getting ready! n my hairstylist, kason, is as vain if not worse then me! he was putting on some L'oreal facial products when i came! hahaha. n i was very shocked when he recognized me when i've only cut my hair there twice n dat was a few months ago. he said,'my friend, long time haven't seen you'. haha... he was super great lah. but seriously he needs to work on his english. oh n de shampoo boy kept talking to me in mandarin ONLI! i was like ya ok the whole time even though i didn understand. come to think of it, i think i'm the onli malay client kason has. haha. oh n i dyed my hair ash brown. i love it. its so subtle. but i kinda miss the redness of my previous colour. i think i'm gona dye my hair red the nxt time! i love jeong hoon's red in goong. anywayz, i think my hair colour is very subtle n sweet. oh n at the end, kason ended up talking abt my hair n jay chou's(i hv no idea wat dey hv in common) n he was like do you know jay chou? obviously i do! haha. n he was so shocked for some unforseen reason. come on lah, i loved the movie curse of the golden flower. then he started to talk abt jolin tsai's songs but he was disappointed that i dont listen to her. well too bad. n in the end, he was amazed that i'm gona be learning japanese. haha. its time he realised that this is spore n not his dear malaysia. i love the world n i think in a way, i regard myself as a global citizen. come on, i love jeong hoon n he onli sings jap n korean.

Juz got back frm de Topman fashion show at marina. it was not bad lah but i cnt wait for the official show at the spore fashion week at ngee ann city dis friday!! WOOTZ! n ders de AFT PARTY! haha. niwayz, de clothes r not bad. a better improvement frm last season's collection.
oh n otw, to marina, dis guy suddenly stopped me n asked for a min. i was being diva-ish cuz i was hungry n wanted to eat so i was like, we're kinda in a rush(i was wif andy) so cn i help u? he ended up wanting my no. cuz he was talent scouting for some modelling agency. i gave my no. n was like ya wtv. den i juz went off....
oh n dat reminds me abt yest. whilst i was otw to de theater at cineleisure, dis grp of angmoh teens suddenly stopped in front of me n waved at me. he said,'hi, havent seen u for a long time. how've u been?' i replied great. but before i cld talk to him summore, he n his grp walked off cuz dey were late for something. now der was a problem here cuz i hv no idea hu dey were!! i dont tink i've ever seen any of dem before n i totally hv no clue how dat guy noes me. wat de?!
dinner wif my dear grandfather was fun. he booked entire floor for our use even tho der were onli a handful of us n we onli occupied 1/4 of de whole floor. wakakaka. oh n arina tinks dat my bro n 2 cousins r anti-social. i totally agree to dat. haha

Went for check up juz now. it was.. an interesting experience. waited for 1.5h JUST to REGISTER! met so many ppl der frm faiz to hanafi, frm gansiew n lennis to.. oh so random ppl. in fact, talked to 2 random ppl n der parents(or in 1 case, grandma) goin to TP. so super random. but der was dis super funny incident.
asked, her told me. den i was like, 'WHO R U?!' she was like whilst me n adam were sitting outside, adam saw his fren named nurul i tink wif her fren(lets call her A) . he asked her where she went n when she said TP mass com, he was like ok n when nurulfren, A, said i told u kan he went to mass com also. Adam was like,'how u noe?' n A was like iman told me. At dat point, it suddenly caught my attention. i was like wat?she was like imani'm amalina, who r u? i got de shock of my life!!! she was told me dat i look so diff! n i said de same thing to her. we were both momentarily stunned. hahahaha. niwayz, we talked awhile n now i noe 2 more ppl goin to my course. den met hurfie n found out dat iman is also in tp mass com. oh n u didn read it wrong. its iman. his full name is Iman Heng. so when we meet during orientation we'll both be,'hi i'm iman, u must be iman'. hahahahah. super funny!!!! WOOTZ! wat a gathering. tho i tink iman's gf is abit.... too cina.. sry to say tho. n i didn mean me.

I think that
UWC is the one missing the whole point of the debate. The
S'pore education system DOES breed elitism. Although I agree with
Safdar that the team's points were all over the place, I think that
UWC will win simply because RI shot themselves in the foot so many times. They had no flow and contradicted themselves too many times.
However, as to the motion, it still stands. Our basic fundamental principle of meritocracy encourages the development of such classes. There is simply no denying this basic fact. Our system encourages us to aim for the top. And each one of us strives to reach the top. Of course by top I mean the best. Elitism does not just mean academically the best, though it is mainly under academic excellence(such is the education system here), but it also involves other areas such as sports and arts.
Under academic excellence, it cannot be denied that elitism exists. All academics strive to enter the better end schools such as the independent and autonomous schools. For example, if you were to get an aggregate of 270, would you want to enter a neighbourhood school when you can enter an independent school such as RI,
RGS,
HCI or even
ACS(I)? Society itself has helped in the development of the elite class. For example, people feel that the independent school students are the smartest class. They are there BECAUSE they are smart and talented enough. IN fact they create their own social class. Even though it is said that the government spends more on the other groups, they are helpless at closing or even narrowing the gap. In fact, the very people in the government are from the elite class. Most of the ministers are FROM THE ELITE SOCIETY. Our PM was from Catholic high, a SAP sch, our President was from VS, an autonomous school, and the rest mostly from
SJI and RI. It cannot be denied the fact that the elite have carved themselves a place at the top of the hierarchy.
Under the education system, schools strive to be the best by achieving top grades during the O and
A'level exams. Even though the education ministry tried to insert other
criterias to the grading scheme, it has backfired as schools now also try to incorporate other areas thereby DOMINATING the playing field. But the
bottomline is, academic excellence is still the number 1 priority. In fact, the ministry's decision to allow RI,
RGS,
ACS(I) n other independent schools to bypass the
O'levels mainly proves that the system is INDEED breeding elitism. however, their move has not rectified this issue.
There are many instances that these top students have been very condescending to the others. They often think that the are the cream of the crop and thus deserve the best. Unfortunately, they seem to be lacking in other areas such as humility. They should WAKE UP and realise that the competition they are facing is not just from our tiny country but against the giants not just from the region but the whole world. We should not be insulting each other but work together to face globalization head on and ensure that our tiny nation does not sink in the face of adversity and challenges.
Perhaps many do not see me as fit to write about such a controversial topic however I feel that I have
experienced both sides. My school cannot be considered elite yet at the same time we are not a neighbourhood school due to our status as an autonomous school. Thus we are neither here nor there, neither elite nor neighbourhood. I have experienced the snobbishness and condescending speeches of some of the elite and at the same time watched as other neighbourhood schools aspire to move up the social hierarchy to at least be of equal status to my school.
I do not see this as a problem. It already exists. We must accept this fact and take it in our stride. Elitism will always exist and in fact it is a much better prospect for the elitists to adopt meritocracy as opposed to nepotism.

i juz watched de LAST episode of hana kimi. wat a waste dey didn confess to each other in de end. haish... but dey r juz so sweet together. i dont tink der will be a sequal. i realli like de show but oh wells. lets hope i dont get addicted to any more dramas. its realli not gd. oh but i juz read dat der gona hv princess hour 2. haha.
i'm getting bored. now dat i quit work, i realli duno wat to do. i'm bored of goin out n i'm broke to go shopping. even tho my schedule for de week is pack, i'm seriously bored. in fact, kuan wei aked me to go shoe shopping wif him at queenstown but i politely declined since i was too lazy to go out today. oh n i juz went shoe shopping last week at angsana where i bought nike shoes. so ya. n my bro seems to tink i hv too many shoes. i ONLI hv 3 pairs. oh n besides tmr when i'm meeting adam n sara, i'm watching mr bean on thursday n goin back to tms on friday oh n i hv another family gathering dis fri at my grandfather's place. i so love him. dis is de first time dat ders a family gathering every week! WOOTZ! oh n i cn even ask him to pick me up in dat beautiful car of his frm sch since he lives onli 3 busstops away -_-.
i hate feeling so empty n wif no purpose. i cnt wait for sch. oh n i'm goin to attend de spore fashion week. watching 3 fashion shows n 1 of dem is top man. haha... my ex-manager, zaini, got me tix. his so nice right? he juz called n was like,'nuriman, u free on de 24 n 31?' i was like y??? n he convinced me dat it wasn abt work n i said ya. n he told me he got me tix. well i was shocked.

last week was H-Y-P-E-R!!! haha... i went out wif saihah n fiqa on friday. let me tell u, before fri, we nv even met n i onli SMS saihah de day before but we had a super great time on friday shopping in orchard n city hall... haha... den on sat, de fun realli started. arina brought her bf over. wats up wif dem n chinese? cuz arina's bf was super cina but his a malay. saihah's bf is a chinese n he looks so super cina. hahaha..... wonder if abng has a gf?? hmmz... niwayz, let me intro u. abng adil is de oldesr. arina is his younger sis followed by alia. fiqa is de oldest frm her side but she's younger den abng. her younger sis is saihah followed by azima hus my age n sabrina. ders a nother branch wif mira as de oldest but she's onli in sec 1 or 2.
aniwayz, de bottomline is dat i had ALOT of fun wif dem n we're going bowling n dinner dis sat! n abng's driving. hahahaahah. on maybe in de morning i might be goin out wif steve, randy, cheryl n wanting. i miss dem so much! we supposed to go out on friday but i goin to malaysia for some shopping again. yupz shopping!!!!!!! haha.... n tmr i goin bugis again.cnt believe ryan noes de designer. i love de collection!

yesterday was super tiring!!
well de wedding was great i must say oh n he is so RICH!!! besides de hantaran which was $10,000, de ring was super beautiful. it was a gold ring wif 3 SOLITAIRE DIAMONDS!!! cld u believe it? oh n it came wif a hefty tag of $4k. oh n i realised dat out of de 2 grps of cousins, onli me n dis girl r talking cuz she claims dat we r de onli 2 sociable ones. haha... well for a start, Arina is so super smart.. lyk come on, she's frm ACJC n she's currently relief teachin at ACS(I). lyk wah lau. n all of a sudden, i feel so dumb.
oh but we agreed dat we shld hv a cousin's outing soon! haha... oh n she loves de omega watch dat OUR grandfather has. hahahahah.. i tink we hv so much in common. oh n also another funny incident was when nyai wawa came wif kak maryana. my dear aunt sid was talking wif her abt switzerland n guess wat? de europe expert was given a class on french by my grandaunt.. haha... super hilarious.
